In 1990, VHM won the contract for the development and production of the M109 LARIT, which was delivered to the Dutch Army. The LARIT is based on a M109 howitzer and has an open frame construction. The system is designed for indoor usage and its internal dimensions are almost similar to a real M109 howitzer. An original gun was used next to original aiming devices. De complete simulator is able to turn over its longitudinal axis by + or - 5,5°.
Following the Dutch Armed Forces, several other countries ordered LARIT-based simulators. VHM has been able to use more and more original howitzer components, so that the simulators became more realistic. Not only the design has become more realistic, also the charge frequency and recoil are very realistic today. VHM was able to develop the LARIT to a state-of-the-art artillery training solution.
